Nets Win First Ever Game In Europe
Move over Rolling Stones, Beatles, and Harry Potter. The New Jersey Nets took their own act to London, England in what would be the NBA’s first game ever played in Europe. They did not disappoint either, with high scoring and a handful of action packed plays that this Nets team has lacked for the majority of the season.
Some highlights included 7-foot center Brook Lopez dribbling from half court, weaving his way to the hoop for a power dunk. Deron Williams continued to pile up the assists and even had a defender lose his balance on his way to an explosive highlight drive that resulted into an alley-oop to Brook Lopez on the finishing end.
In an otherwise disappointing season, the Nets played with passion and exuberance that they have been lacking all season long. Nothing better exemplified this then watching Kris Humphries chase down James Johnson for a seemingly easy layup, but to be denied as Humphries swatted the ball against the layup for the nice rejection.
Picking up their 18th victory of the season in London, England was a nice accolade. In the process, the Nets have already accumulated six more wins than they did all of last year with 21 games left on the season.
This marked the first win for Deron Williams in a Nets uniform. Albeit against a bottom dweller it’s nice to see New Jersey break their six-game losing streak as they push to gain some continuity and momentum, heading into the final stretch of the season.
Overall, it was a great effort and a nice way to look back on a season that was marked by improvement and blockbuster trades. The New Jersey Nets will forever be known as the NBA’s first team to win a regular season game in Europe.
